During the next several days, the Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) will hold two community meetings on Dominion Virginia Power's proposed 500,000-volt transmission line. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in the Jeffersonton Community Center at 5073 Jeffersonton Road, in Culpeper County. at 7 p.m.

"We just want to keep people in the loop," PEC Spokesman Bob Lazaro said of the meetings. "We want to keep people informed" about the latest information on the proposed power line and the State Corporation Commission's review of the project." PEC President Chris Miller will make a presentation and take audience questions, Lazaro said. Dominion considers the proposed line essential to meeting Northern Virginia's rapidly growing electricity needs. The line must be operating by summer 2011 to avoid potential "rolling blackouts" across the region, according to Dominion officials. But PEC believes the utility can satisfy Northern Virginia's future energy needs through conservation, better technology and upgrades to existing infrastructure. The proposed line would link a substation at Winchester to one at Arcola in Loudoun County. It would parallel an existing power line corridor, which cuts through Frederick, Warren, Fauquier, Rappahannock, Culpeper, Prince William and Loudoun counties. The SCC will decide need and location issues related to the proposed line
